Alarm System Elements 4

Elements of an Alarm System Part 4

Special Features

A nice advantage of a choosing a high-end electronic security system is that you can customize it to make the operation more convenient to your lifestyle and home protection needs. However, because the installation and programming of these models is complex, you may want to have it professionally done in order to ensure you get all of the features possible out of the system. A few specialized options you may want to try are:

Smoke and heat detectors

This feature works just like any other smoke and heat detector would, with the added benefit of no batteries to worry about. The alarm siren is also louder and if you have central monitoring, they call for help as soon as the alarm is triggered.

Custom English display

A display screen on each keypad can be used to check the status of your alarm system. With this feature, each sensor is named using English abbreviations such as Master Bedrm Window or Ft Hall Smoke Det, rather than by a number or code to remember.

Chime Mode

This is a nice feature so even when the system is disarmed, you are aware of what’s going on in your house. It works by emitting a chime tone should a window or exterior door be opened.

Automatic Paging

The system pages you when the alarm has been activated or when a previously programmed special event happens such as a child returning home from school. You can read your pager wherever you are and know your family is safe and secure.

Automatic Shut-off and Reset

You can also program the system to automatically shut-off. This way, the system will be disarmed when the kids get home from school, or when you get home from work. It is also possible to set the system to reset later. This is a nice feature if you are on vacation. It allows you to have control over the security system, while still giving time for a pet sitter to visit the house and fulfill duties.

Lights

You can send the system a signal from your car or phone to turn on the interior and/or exterior lights for a clear entry when you arrive. You can also set the system to turn the lights on when the alarm is triggered.

Codeless on and off

If remembering a code is difficult, the system can be “keyed” with an electronic card or key for activating and deactivating  the security system.
