Home Inventory Part 3
Home Inventory Part 3
Why not create your home inventory at the beginning of a move? As long as all of your items are already out of closets, dressers and the attic, why not record the items as you box them up for the move? Simply get a clipboard with a notepad and write down the contents either as you box things up or as you unpack into your new home. If you are planning on leaving items in a storage unit it is a better idea to write them down as you pack up—out of sight, out of mind.
So, what do you record?
Despite the type of method you chose to record your home inventory, you still need to get everything on the list. Be systematic in your approach. Go room by room and notice everything. If this seems overwhelming, start slowly by following our list. Use this list to collect information about what you own. In reviewing the list you will probably be surprised at just how much you actually own. Store the completed inventory in a fire-proof box or in a safe-deposit box at your bank. Keep an extra copy at home and update the list every year or so especially around holidays and birthdays.
